SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS

Surgical Orthodontics & Craniofacial Expertise

Surgical orthodontics, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a highly advanced subspecialty that combines orthodontic treatment with corrective jaw surgery. It is typically recommended for patients with severe jaw or bite discrepancies that cannot be corrected with braces alone.

You can trust Dr. Parsaei's extensive expertise in managing the most complex cases — from cleft lip and palate to syndromic craniofacial conditions and severe jaw deformities. Few orthodontists in NYC have completed such advanced training, which means Dr. Parsaei's patients receive the highest standard of care, even for the most challenging conditions.

Team-based Comprehensive Care

Surgical and craniofacial orthodontics is a multidisciplinary effort. Dr. Parsaei recommends surgical orthodontics when traditional orthodontic treatment alone cannot achieve a healthy bite, or when jaw misalignment significantly affects chewing, speaking, or breathing.

To create a comprehensive treatment plan, Dr. Parsaei works closely with oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, speech pathologists, and other specialists. In most cases, orthodontic treatment is performed both before and after surgery to ensure optimal results. In select cases, surgery may be performed before orthodontic treatment begins.

This carefully coordinated pre- and post-surgical care ensures that the teeth align properly once the jaws are repositioned. Dr. Parsaei oversees every stage of care to ensure a seamless process and the best possible outcome for each patient.

Exceptional Outcomes

The results of advanced surgical orthodontic care can be truly life-changing. Many patients achieve a more balanced facial profile and a healthier, more functional bite. Correcting jaw misalignments can lead to significant improvements in chewing, breathing, speech, snoring, and possibly TMJ disorders. Beyond functional benefits, smiles typically become more harmonious and confident.

While braces are the most common orthodontic treatment used alongside orthognathic surgery, clear aligners may be an option in certain cases. If that is your preference, Dr. Parsaei is the ideal specialist to consult for personalized treatment planning. With her expertise in managing both rare craniofacial anomalies and complex routine orthodontic cases, choosing Dr. Parsaei means receiving care grounded in authority and compassion.

For families facing a challenging medical journey, Dr. Parsaei provides expert guidance without the delays or miscommunications that can happen when care is fragmented among multiple providers. Throughout treatment, she ensures every procedure is clearly explained, manages discomfort effectively, and offers emotional as well as clinical support.

Specialized Fellowship Training

Dr. Parsaei completed the prestigious Plastic Surgery Craniofacial Orthodontic Fellowship at NYU Grossman’s Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery—the first CODA-accredited post-residency fellowship of its kind in the U.S. This intensive training equipped her to manage a wide range of congenital and acquired craniofacial conditions, with a focus on cleft lip and palate, syndromic craniosynostosis and other craniofacial syndromes, dentofacial deformities, and orthognathic (jaw) surgery.

Put simply, she has extensive experience guiding tooth and jaw development in patients with serious skeletal discrepancies, skillfully integrating orthodontics with surgical treatment plans. This additional year of specialized training goes far beyond a standard residency and directly enhances the quality of care she provides to her patients.
